Faculty
The degree program in clinical psychology is under the jurisdiction of an interdepartmental Graduate Studies Committee. The majority of the members of the Committee are psychologists who hold appointments or joint appointments in a variety of departments within UT Southwestern Medical Center [e.g., Psychiatry (Psychology), Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, and The Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School]. Subject to the approval of the Graduate Executive Committee and the Dean of the Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Committee has the responsibility to:
- select applicants for admission, to determine degree requirements
- determine course offerings
- evaluate the academic progress of students under its jurisdiction
- determine which students shall be admitted to candidacy for the degree
- determine which students have satisfactorily completed requirements for the degree
- administer all other aspects of the program
The program emphasizes a high faculty-student ratio, and the teaching of graduate students is a primary focus of the psychology group. There is a segment of the faculty whose major time commitment is to research in the clinic, the laboratory and/or the field. In addition, a significant number of faculty has clinical responsibilities as their primary work identification, and others focus on a combination of clinical and research activities.
