UT Southwestern's Lowe Foundation Center for Women's Preventative Health Care is a model for the advancement of care for the peri- and postmenopausal woman.  With the average life expectancy of about 79 years, the typical American woman will live one third of her life after menopause.  Menopause thus offers a tremendous opportunity to initate preventative and life-extending health care.  Using a multidisciplinary physician team, the Lowe Foundation Women's Center is designed to coordinate the preventative and disease-related health care needs of peri- and postmenopausal women.

The Lowe Foundation Women's Center provides care for the primary and secondary effects of ovarian estrogen deprivation, including preventative treatment of:
  • Osteoporosis

  • Heart disease

  • Bladder incontinence

  • Hormone-dependent cancers

  • Mood disorders

  • Other disorders exacerbated by the aging process

Procedures provided on campus include bone-density and ultrasound testing within the Lowe Foundation Women's Center and mammography within the UT Southwestern Center for Breast Care.

Lowe Foundation Women's Center faculty offer the latest surgical procedures, including:
  • Minimally invasive hysterectomy using the LASH procedure to morsellate the uterus

  • Thermal ablation of uterine endometrium lining to treat benign menorrhagia
