Iatros Award
The Iatros (Greek for physician) Award was born of the idea of several members of the Class of 1984. The award honors one of their own who best exemplifies the qualities one might expect to find in a physician. The criteria of 1984 remain the same today:
Patient care: Dedication to meeting individual needs of patients.
Clinical ability: Application of a fund of useful knowledge and the ability to apply technical skills necessary in patient management.
Leadership: Ability to inspire confidence, communicate ideas effectively, and initiate the follow through with an appropriate course of action.
Esprit de corps: Ability to recognize and promote the well-being of the larger group, since our common goals are best served by united effort rather than self alone.
Extracurricular activities: Participation in outside activities of value to the individual or community such as, but not limited to: Research, religious activities, community activities, intramural activities, family responsibilities, political activities, social organizations, class activities.
Nominations for the Iatros Award are submitted by seniors in written statement in support of the criteria.
