DALLAS - June 16, 2005 - Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center are seeking patients to participate in medical studies on strokes that run in families, dental implants for patients with dentures and a study determining the effects of low-carbohydrate diets on otherwise healthy volunteers.

Stroke
UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers are looking for volunteers in the Siblings with Ischemic Stroke Study. This National Institutes of Health-funded study's purpose is to scan the human genome for regions that correlate with the risk of having an ischemic stroke. Participants must be 18 years old and have at least one living full sibling who has suffered a stroke. It does not matter where the sibling resides; they are not required to live in the same town as the study participant. Patients chosen for the study will have a member of a home health agency visit their residence for a one-time blood draw. Those interested in participating should contact Gregg Wright at 214-648-0363.

Dental Implants
Physicians with the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center are looking for individuals to participate in a dental implant study. If you or someone you know has loose fitting lower dentures, dental implants that increase stability can be inserted at no charge to those chosen for the study. For more information, call Brian Walker at 214-648-3034.
