Evaluation of Clinical Training

The supervising ID Attending evaluates fellows on every inpatient rotation. These evaluations are forwarded to both the fellow and the ID program director who reviews them and provides feedback to each fellow twice a year in a formal meeting.  Fellows also receive verbal feedback about their performance during the rotation from the Attending physician.

For evaluation of outpatient activities, fellows meet with the Directors of the Amelia Court and the VA North Texas Health Care System HIV Clinics and receive feedback from supervising attendings.

Evaluation of Research Training

The mentoring committee (described above) will monitor the fellow's progress in his or her research activities, and ensures that he/she achieves the stated goals. The fellow will also present his/her completed or "in-progress" work at the Friday AM ID conference at least once per year.  In addition, the fellow is expected to prepare his or her completed work for presentation in regional and/or national meetings, and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Feedback

Fellows meet with the Program Director monthly to provide feedback on their experience during the various rotations. If Attending physicians have identified problems that affect the rotation, these may be addressed and input sought from the fellows regarding solutions. If deficiencies in a fellow's performance are identified, the Program Director will have additional meetings with the fellow as needed.

Finally, representative program personnel (i.e., at least the program director, representative faculty, and one fellow) will meet yearly to review program goals and objectives, and the effectiveness with which they are achieved.  Fellow performance and outcome assessment will be a key component in this evaluation.
