Competency-Based Fellows' Evaluation

Fellows are encouraged to select two mentors among the UTSW faculty members:

  • A clinical mentor who is a member of the UTSW Division of Infectious Diseases clinical faculty.
  • A research mentor: a clinical or research faculty who may or may not be a member of the division. The research mentor will be primarily responsible for mentoring, directing and supervising the fellow's research activities.

Together with the ID Division Chief, the ID Fellowship Training Program Director, the research and clinical mentors will constitute the fellow's "mentoring committee".  The fellow will meet with the committee at least twice a year and will present his/her completed or "in-progress" work at the Friday morning conference at least once a year.

As mentioned above, significant input will be sought from other health care professionals and ancillary personnel in evaluating the overall performance of the fellows.
