Texas Core Curriculum Policy
Effective for all entering BS students in Fall 2005 or later:

  • The state of Texas requires students to complete a Core Curriculum in order to receive a bachelor’s degree from a public college or university in Texas.  Using guidelines provided by the State, each institution designates its own Core Curriculum.
  • Bachelor’s degree applicants who have completed the Core Curriculum at another Texas public college or university are not required to complete the SAHSS Core Curriculum.
  • The UT Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School (SAHSS) Core Curriculum consists of 42 semester credit hours in specified component areas.
  • Applicants who have attended private or out-of-state institutions of higher education OR applicants who have attended Texas public institutions without completing that institution’s Core Curriculum must complete the SAHSS Core Curriculum by taking the required courses at another regionally accredited college or university prior to enrolling in SAHSS.  Core Curriculum courses are not offered at UT Southwestern.
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Advance Placement (AP) credit may be accepted for Core Curriculum requirements as long as such credit has previously been accepted and indicated on the transcript of the student by a previously attended college or university.
