UT Southwestern University Hospitals are committed to teaching and to learning, and offer many opportunities within the hospitals themselves.

Our current initiatives include:

  • Coursework for the ongoing education of staff as well as community professionals: Recent courses have included conscious sedation, neonatal resuscitation, end of life care, and pain management.

  • Unit-based educational services: Our educators also spend time in the patient care areas to provide and support the continuing education of patient care staff.

  • We also offer excellent intensive programs to orient and train the newly hired staff members, including nursing internships and externships.

  • Our employees have the option of tuition reimbursement for the continued education that they seek. For information on that program, please contact Human Resources at either hospital.

  • On-line continuing education: On this web site, you’ll find a link to an annotated list of sites that offer such programs for many healthcare professionals. Check it out!

  • Professional advancement training and support: We currently offer workshops for preceptors, trainers, charge nurses, patient care technicians and unit secretaries, in skills that are essential to each of these roles.

  • Management training and education: Our program includes programs in staff retention, performance enhancement, interviewing skills and other aspects of leadership.

Please call us for more information, at the Department of Education, 214-645-1140.
