Botulinum toxin (Botox®) has been used safely in medicine for decades to treat certain medical conditions. Currently injection of botulinum toxin is commonly performed to reduce facial lines that are caused by muscle movement.  Botulinum toxin injection has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the "frown lines" between the eyebrows, and it is also commonly used to treat laugh lines or "crows feet" around the eyes. Additionally, this medicine may be used to reduce excessive perspiration of the underarms, hands, or feet.  For more information regarding this product, please click on the blue highlighted link above.

The effects last three to six months, and subsequent treatments are necessary to maintain optimal results. Side effects are usually mild and may include bruising, mild temporary swelling, and slight pain on injection. Botulinum toxin injection often gives patients a more refreshed, relaxed appearance and requires no down time. For these reasons, it is one  of the most popular cosmetic procedures in this country.
