A number of STARS' programs have been developed to enrich the science curriculum without requiring the need to travel to the UT Southwestern campus. Call us if you are interested in taking advantage of any of these free programs.
Science Fair Judges: Faculty, staff and students are recruited to judge local science fairs. No more than 2 judges can be provided for any single school event.
Science Ambassadors: Volunteers travel to area schools to speak on various topics related to biomedical research and careers.
Distance Learning Initiative: Two-way video conferencing equipment is used to set up a dialogue between students in their classrooms and experts on the UT Southwestern campus.
Student Mentoring Program: UT Southwestern faculty act as mentors to advise and direct students working on research projects.
Research Assistance Program: STARS' staff can assist teachers and students seeking current information on topics in biomedical research. The Library at UT Southwestern Medical Center is a great resource for up-to-date information on the biomedical sciences. Through a special agreement, STARS teachers may utilize the resources there and apply for a library card that will enable them to check out materials. However, it is often inconvenient to drive all the way into Dallas to get a journal article or to check up on some question a student has asked. The STARS Program is here to help you out! Just give us a call and we'll get the information you need. We can send photocopies of journal articles or other information to you via fax, e-mail or US mail. Contact the STARS office at 214-648-9505 to take advantage of this opportunity.
