The focus of our research is to characterize the role of Platelet Derived Growth Factor C (PDGF-C) in wound healing. Recently, PDGF-C, a new member of the PDGF/VEGF family and ligand for the PDGF-alpha receptor was described in human and murine genomes. It has not been described in the rat model. PDGF-C is expressed in many human tissues, most highly in heart, liver, kidney, pancreas, and ovary, but the expression in skin was not known. In this study, our goal was to determine the expression of PDGFC in normal and wounded rat skin.
