General writing skills and strategies; how to prepare an empirical article including tips on writing the abstract, introduction, aims, methods, results, and discussion/conclusion sections of a peer reviewed journal article. Students will be required to submit a journal article and review others' articles. Course objectives are:
1. Define components of an empirical article.
2. Review and discuss submitted articles.
3. Proof and edit articles for future submission.
4. Accomplish submission of a peer-reviewed article.
Prerequisites: None.
Credit: 1 credit hour, elective
Grading Criteria: Pass/Fail; The grade is based on your attendance (33%), written paper (33%), and review of paper (33%). Attendance is 33% of the grade. Missing 1 class will result in 1/16 reduction in total of 33 points/class. If you fail to turn in paper, you will lose 33% of 100; if you fail to review paper you will fail the class; review grade (0-100) = % of 33 points acquired. Assignments, projects, and participation in the class discussions are important components of the course. In order to pass the course, you must complete all assignments and participate in the class discussions. Passing Grade = 66 (Pass/Fail)
