The Division of Biostatistics within the Department of Clinical Sciences provides professional consulting and programming in statistical analysis and database management on a fee basis and instruction in the use of statistical software for the faculty, staff and students at UT Southwestern and affiliated institutions. Assistance is available to investigators (one hour at no change) preparing proposals for IRB or IACRAC review. Statistical consultants provide expertise for design and analysis of simple and complex research studies. This includes selecting an appropriate design, determining and justifying a sample size, formulating hypotheses, selecting appropriate statistical analysis techniques, creating presentation graphics, and assisting in preparation of grant proposals, as well as preparing manuscripts for publication. Database consultants work on a wide variety of data management projects. These include determining the best data management approach for a project, selecting an appropriate computer platform, designing a database, creating custom programs for data entry, developing reporting procedures and retrieving information for subsequent statistical analysis. The Division of Biostatistics faculty members offer a number of short courses on statistical and computing topics to meet campus educational and research needs. Also offered by the Division are credit courses in biostatistics and data management for the UT Southwestern Medical School and the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The Division jointly maintains a PC classroom in conjunction with Information Resources and the Library. Programmers are available to design professional web sites to support research tasks, including web-based data access, interactive web forms and other programmable web tasks. The Division also offers campus site licenses for the SPSS and SAS Programs. Technical support is provided for some computer-based statistical analysis programs, including SAS and SPSS. The Division is responsible for campus testing and evaluation services and also provides expertise in creating and reading scannable forms. Data entry services are available as well. For additional information or to schedule an appointment regarding any of the above services, please contact the Division of Biostatistics at 214-648-3681.
