Clinical Sciences Graduate Program: Admission Requirements

ADMISSION:

The Clinical Sciences Graduate Program was developed for candidates whose career goals include a heavy time commitment to conducting high-quality clinical research in an academic medical center.

All candidates must:

  1. Fulfill all requirements for admission to UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences;
  2. Have a doctoral level degree in biomedical science (e.g. M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D., D.D.S., etc.);
  3. Have a minimum of 50 percent protected time (for the graduate certificate) or 75 percent protected time (for the master’s degree) devoted to the didactic and Socratic curriculum, research project and the research practicum;
  4. Submit a summary (not to exceed three pages) of existing or planned, mentored, clinical research project and career development plan;
  5. Have three letters of recommendation from the following (including the specific notations):
    1. Support from department chairman indicating the minimum percentage of protected time to complete the curriculum and project,
    2. A faculty member who knows the trainee well,
    3. A mentor documenting the trainee’s commitment to a career in clinical research.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Special student/auditor applicants - must complete the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Special Student form EACH semester they are enrolled as a special student/auditor by the published registration deadlines. Forms and instructions can be requested from the Department of Clinical Sciences by clicking here.
  • Certificate and Master's Degree program applicants - must complete the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences online application by the deadlines listed below.

DEADLINES:

All Clinical Sciences Graduate Program applicants should submit the appropriate application(s) by:

  • Fall Semester - July 15
  • Spring Semester - November 15
  • Summer Semester - March 15
