Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications  and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

This week on Health Watch, we’re talking about getting the benefits of a vacation even if high gas prices keep you from traveling. You can de-stress and clear your mind at home, but that’s something women might find particularly difficult.

Dr. Stephanie Setliff, a psychiatrist at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says women are the queens of multi-tasking, and that can lead to additional stress. It may be difficult to let go of all the little worries that pile up at work and at home, and taking a vacation from work may only make life at home busier. For an at-home vacation, women could try making time to get together with friends, taking a yoga class, going shopping or even just setting aside a few uninterrupted hours to read a good book. Let someone else worry about housework and errands for a little while. Taking care of yourself can make it easier to manage the stress you can’t avoid.
