With higher gas prices and airfares, many people may not be able to go away for a vacation this summer. But that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from some time off. This week on Health Watch, we’ll talk about why vacations are so important and how you can get the benefits without leaving town.

Dr. Munro Cullum, a psychiatrist at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says taking time off is essential for your mental health and to de-stress. Our brains need a rest every so often, and all the information we have to keep track of these days can lead to stress. While some stress can spur you to accomplish things, high stress levels can affect your physical health. You’re more vulnerable to illness when you’re stressed.
