Summer means class reunions, family reunions, beach vacations and lots of other reasons you might want to lose a lot of weight — fast. This week on Health Watch, we’ll offer some tips on losing weight quickly without harming your health.

There is a limit to how much weight you can safely lose in a given amount of time. Dr. Jo Ann Carson, a nutrition expert at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says it’s not realistic to try to lose more than about two pounds a week. Starving yourself to lose more weight could endanger your health.

It takes a concerted effort and structured plan to lose weight in a short period of time. The three keys are diet, exercise and support.
