It’s vacation season, time to get away from it all. This week on Health Watch we’ll be talking about vacations, travel and unwinding. Stress is a big part of modern life. Dr. Stephanie Setliff, a psychiatrist at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says you can’t eliminate stress, but you can learn to deal with it.

When stress isn’t managed well, it can lead to problems like depression, weight loss or gain, headaches and high blood pressure. Managing stress requires finding a balance among the various priorities in your life and learning to let go of problems or worries that you can’t control or do anything about. Taking care of yourself, finding a healthy outlet, such as exercise or the arts, and spending time with people you care about who can offer support are all ways to help you deal with stress.

Next on Health Watch: Why you really need to take a vacation.
