This week on Health Watch, we're talking about how you can have younger-looking skin without spending a fortune at the cosmetics counter. Previously, we discussed how important daily sunscreen use is for keeping your skin young and healthy. But what do you do if you're no longer young and you already have some signs of aging?

Dr. Sarah Weitzul, an expert on cosmetic dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, says a retinoid may be able to help. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A, and they can help build collagen, minimize fine wrinkles and reverse some sun damage. The most effective retinoids are those that are available by prescription. Although these products are effective, they can also be irritating. You may need to use only small amounts every other night, especially when you first begin treatment.
