Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

This week on "Healthwatch," we're wrapping up a series on weight management. Some-
times losing weight - especially those last few pounds that linger in problem areas - seems like too much effort. With techniques like liposuction available, why bother with diet and exercise? You could just get the fat sucked out of your body.

Plastic surgeons at UT Southwestern Medical Center say it's not that easy. They've found that diet and exercise are even more important when you've had liposuction. People who have had the procedure are more likely to gain weight if they don't follow a healthy diet or exercise after the surgery. On the positive side, people who eat properly and exercise are twice as likely to lose weight after liposuction.

Liposuction isn't a weight-loss tool by itself. It works to provide better results in con-
junction with a healthy lifestyle.
