Being lucky enough to make it through the holidays without coming down with the flu does not mean you're out of the woods. We're still in the height of flu season, and with the recent vaccine shortage, more people are at risk for the disease.
Doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas say you can help lower your chances for the flu by taking some simple steps. The most important thing to do is wash your hands several times a day for at least 30-seconds each or use a sanitizing hand gel, especially after being around people or before eating. Also, make an effort to keep your hands away from your face - don't rub your eyes and try not to put your hands around your mouth.
Some local health departments have received additional supplies of the vaccine, so if you're in a high-risk group and you haven't had a flu shot, call to find out if a vaccine is available.
