Jenny Hsieh, Ph.D.

My lab is interested in the molecular mechanisms that control adult neurogenesis and gliogenesis.  We are using neural stem cells from rodent and human to determine the extrinsic and intrinsic factors that specify cell fate decisions.  Modulation of chromatin structure by histone modifications and small, non-coding RNAs is important for mediating lineage-specific differentiation.   Epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation underlying stem cell biology are being studied using techniques in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, and microscopy.
