Dr. Karen Kowalske, chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation, was recently elected a director on the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPM&R).
The board, founded in 1947, is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. The directors are nationally recognized leaders in physical medicine and rehabilitation education, clinical practice, academic medicine and research.
The Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation establishes the requirements for certification and maintaining certification, creates its examinations, works to improve training, and contributes to setting the standards for physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Kowalske is the principal investigator for the North Texas Burn Rehabilitation Model System.
