All nursing and technical personnel working in a laser environment shall attend annual laser training.  Those who operate the equipment shall be tested and certified annually by Nursing Education and the Laser Safety Officer. Those who will operate medical laser(s) shall have didactic and clinical training consisting of:

• laser biophysics
• laser systems and classification
• laser safety
• hazards of lasers
• perioperative operation of lasers
• laser accessories
• laser storage and movement

The operators shall annually certify by successfully completing a written test and clinical return demonstration of perioperative medical laser operation.
