IATA Shipping of Dangerous Goods:
Any person that offers for commercial transport (Fed-Ex, UPS, DHL, etc.) any dangerous goods must meet the transport requirements set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 49, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). One of these requirements is proper training.
IATA Certification for Shipping of Dangerous Goods Training for all clinical, laboratory and administrative personnel provided by Environmental Health and Safety.
IATA Initial Training- 2 day course – Cost $50.00
Description: 2 day class providing necessary skills to properly prepare and process dangerous goods shipments according to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Dangerous goods are articles or substances which are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment. These are listed in the Dangerous Goods Regulations manual or are classified according to these regulations. This class focuses more on chemical substances than biological substances.

Description: One day class covering the specifics of shipping any radioactive material, according to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

IATA Infectious Substances – 1 day course – Cost $25.00
Description: One day class covering the specifics of shipping:
Infectious substances affecting humans
Infectious substances affecting animals
Biological Substances, category B
Exempt human specimens
Exempt animal specimens
as specified in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Infectious substance are substances known or reasonably expected to contain pathogens (micro-organisms) such as bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae, parasites, fungi, and other agents such as prions. Human or animal specimens are those collected directly from humans or animals, including, but not limited to, excreta, secreta, blood and its components, tissue and tissue fluid swabs, and body parts being transported for purposes such as research, diagnosis, investigational activities, disease treatment and prevention. This class also covers the requirements for shipping with use of Dry Ice.
