Medical/Biological/Infectious/Glass Waste Disposal

DUE TO THE NUMBER OF REQUESTS PLEASE ALLOW THREE DAYS FOR PICK UP REQUEST TO COMPLETE

Biological Waste Box: Store waste in designated Stericycle biological waste box sealed in 1.5-mil thick red plastic bag.   Maximum weight of full container: 43 lbs.  Close top and bottom flaps by using auto-locking mechanism.  Sealed sharps containers may be placed into biological waste box. Sealed medical waste boxes must be stored in one designated spot to avoid confusion. Boxes and bags will be provided free of charge by EH&S.

Materials to be put into Biological Waste Box
1. Blood and Blood Products
2. Pathological Waste
3. Cultures and Stocks of Infectious Agents
4. Contaminated Animal Waste
5. Sharps Containers
6. Biotechnology By-Product Effluents

Materials and glass that do not fall under one of the above categories must be put into regular trash bin.

Glass:
 Broken glass or glass contaminated with infectious material or broken must be placed into sharps containers, otherwise put into broken glass into disposal box labeled "broken glass". Broken glass boxes can be any hard container as long as it is sealable and labeled.  Glass disposal boxes ARE NOT provided by Physical Plant. 

Requests for glass trash should be directed to Physical Plant at 214-648-3375.  NOT EH&S

Warning: failing to adhere to these instructions may result in rejection of pickup.
