Postdoctoral training position is available to study the molecular physiology of ion channel disorders of muscle and brain. Projects include: (1) functional analysis of disease-associated ion channel mutations, (2) structure-function analysis of Na channel gating mechanisms, (3) cloning and characterization of novel ion channels in skeletal muscle, (4) characterization of genetically engineered mouse models periodic paralysis (Na channel defect). Experience in patch-clamp recording, molecular biology (cloning, mutagenesis), working with transgenic mice, or quantitative modeling of physiological systems is desired.
