Black History Month Committee (BHMC):

    Description: BHMC plans a series of  presentations/workshops for every Wednesday lunch hour during the month of February. Some of the presentations done in the past have been the viewing of documentaries highlighting the Civil Rights movement and African Americans in medicine, discussions of racial disparities in healthcare and the impact of HIV on African Americans, gospel choir     performances, and a Black art exhibit.

Community Service Committee (CSC):

    Description: The CSC is the mechanism by which UTSW-SNMA accomplishes its outreach efforts within the medical center and the Greater Dallas community. The CSC identifies a variety of volunteer opportunities for members that have numerous interests and also selects several outreach efforts that are endorsed as official UTSW-SNMA project that will require participation from all members.

Financial Committee (FC):

    Description: The FC is responsible for ensuring that all Chapter events can be adequately financed and serves to support the Treasurer in all related fundraising activities.

Health Profession Recruitment & Exposure Program Committee (HPREP):

    Description: The aim of this program is to provide minority students with exposure to careers in the health professions. The basic program consists of  7-8 Saturday morning sessions that last for four hours. Minority physicians and medical students lecture on various issues in the forefront of medicine, and then break into smaller discussion groups. Tours of an area medical center, other facilities, and workshops on study skills are also integral components of the program.

Historian Committee:

    Description: The Chapter Historians are responsible for documenting all events with photographs and the collection of materials representative of the event for the Chapter scrapbook.

Legislative Affairs Committee:

    Description: UTSW-SNMA continues to increase its voice in the arena of health care by addressing the educational disparities in underserved and minority communities, as well as the detrimental decline of minority applications and admissions to medical school. The committee has also organized discussions relating to gun violence in support of recent collaborative efforts between Physicians for Social Responsibility and SNMA at the national level.

Medical Association of Pre-Health Students  Committee (MAPS):

    Description: Through partnership between local SNMA chapters and undergraduate pre-health, this program hopes to increase the matriculation of MAPS students into professional health related programs by providing information, materials, and mentorship opportunities. Facilitation and organization of interactions between pre-health membership and the educators/administrators of institutions training health care professionals is encouraged. UTSW-SNMA is the affiliated medical school sponsor for Paul Quinn College, Texas Christian University, and Baylor University.

Pre-Medical Conference Committee (PMCC):

    Description: Each year during the month of February the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School sponsors a pre-medical conference that places special emphasis on the successful matriculation of minority pre-health profession students into nursing, medical, and allied health study programs. The Conference lasts an entire day and covers numerous topics pertaining to the application process, interviews, MCAT preparation, and the ancillary things that can be done to increase an applicants marketability to medical schools. UTSW-SNMA and LASO Presidents facilitate the conference and UTSW-SNMA and LASO members participate in registration, guided tours of the Parkland Memorial Hospital, "Outbreak" - Small Group Sessions, and a panel discussion.

Recruitment Committee (RC):

    Description: The Recruitment Committee contacts all minority interviewees prior to their interview to arrange housing for those interviewees that would like to be hosted by a UTSW-SNMA members, and a pre-interview dinner with UTSW-SNMA / LASO members. The dinners are very informal and serve to introduce prospective applicants to other minority students and to answer any questions that they may have about  medical school.

Social Activities Committee (SAC):

    Description: The SAC serves to inform members of ongoing non-medical activities within the Dallas area that may be entertaining or culturally stimulating. The primary purpose is to continuously offer fun options as an outlet to the rigors of medical school.
