MEMORANDUM
TO: Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: John A. Roan
SUBJECT: Security Changes for North Campus
UT Southwestern is committed to providing the best possible security for all our faculty, staff and students, consistent with maintenance of reasonable access and freedom to move about the campus. Toward that end, in response to requests for greater security at the North Campus on weekends, holidays, and after hours, a significant change in building access will be implemented effective September 30, 2002. All buildings on the North Campus, including Hamon, Simmons, Seay, Rogers and their adjacent parking garages, will be locked during the evening and night hours and on the weekends. Entry to all buildings, other than the Rogers building, will be at the Hamon (NA) Garage entrance and will require a current UT Southwestern faculty, staff or student parking gate card. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic must enter at the Hamon Garage entrance.
Non-employees and visitors without gate cards must be accompanied by the appropriate university personnel or must have made the necessary prior arrangements, in writing, with the University Police. The Hamon Garage entrance is equipped with an intercom connected to the University Police Dispatch Office. Employees and non-employees who do not have a parking gate card or cannot contact building occupants may ask the University Police for assistance. The University Police will meet the person requesting assistance at the Hamon Garage entrance to examine university identification or verification of authorization to enter the facilities. The individual must have the proper UT Southwestern identification to be allowed entry into the facility. Employees without parking cards may request a special card at the Parking Office.
These changes are being made to further protect our personnel, facilities and university property during non-business hours. Questions may be directed to the Parking Department at 214.648.9600.

Fire Exits: Copies of floor plans with marked exits are available from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety or Business Affairs.
Building exit doors should never be propped open for any reason, either during normal business hours or during secured hours. Open doors are a fire and safety hazard that compromises the efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for all employees and students.
We encourage all faculty, staff and students to be alert and aware of their surroundings. Employees should always report any suspicious person or activity at all University-owned or operated sites, or nearby locations. University Police offer various crime prevention seminars, including one on personal safety. These seminars are available to the campus, and can be given in a department or office setting. Escort service to the parking garages is available 24 hours a day. For more information about either of these services, contact University Police at 214.648.8311.
