Skin vesicles, vesicle fluid and cells on slide
Incise vesicle peripherally with a sterile scalpel. Lift back the top of the lesion and remove excess fluid by gentle blotting with a swab. Scrape the base of the lesion thoroughly with a scalpel blade. Spread cellular material collected on the edge of the blade thinly over the 6-8mm diameter well area on a clean microscope slide and air dry. Transport to lab in a sterile container. Vesicles and vesicle fluid may be submitted in a sterile tube of saline or in viral transport media.
