Acetone fixed smear
Obtain epithelial cells from base of vesicle with sterile scalpel blade. Spread cells onto two (2) separate small drops of sterile saline on a glass slide. Air dry and acetone fix. Store at 4º - 8ºC. Transport at room temperature. Swabs may also be submitted in viral transport media.
