<1:4 Negative for EBNA antibody. Normally seen in those with no history of infection with EBV. Also seen within first 1 to 3 months after onset of primary EBV infection. If acute EBV infection is suspected, testing for the presence of IgM class antibody against the viral capsid antigen (VCA) is recommended.
≥1:4 Positive for EBNA antibody. Evidence of present or past infection by EBV.
