Specimen Requirements

Endocervical and Urethral Swabs

Collection: Replens lubricant has been noted to produce false-negative results. Lubricants of that type should be avoided or used sparingly when collecting these samples. Use only dacron, rayon, or calcium alginate aluminum shafts. Leave the swab in the transport tube. Submit swab in M4 viral transport.

Transport: Submit at 18-25°C within 1 hour. Refrigerate swab specimens if transport to the laboratory is delayed for more than 1 hour from the time of collection.
