Bone Marrow Biopsy

Description
The bone marrow biopsy evaluation is clinically relevant in the diagnosis of hematological and/or non hematological diseases.
Methodology Paraffin section with hematoxylin and iron stains.
Performed
Monday through Friday
Turnaround Time
Most diagnoses are rendered within 24 hours by telephone or fax. Reports are then mailed. If additional studies are required that will delay a final report; a telephone progress report will be made and an estimate of the time necessary to issue a final report will be provided.
Specimen Requirements

Fix specimen in formalin for 1-2 hours, and send fixed marrow core.

Rejection Criteria: Specimens other than bone marrow core.

88321, Basic consultation and report on referred material; or

88323, Consultation and report on referred material which required slide preparation; or

88325, Consultation with review of records and specimens, and report of referred material. Other immunohistochemical stains codes may apply.

Reference Range The laboratory will provide an interpretive report.
