Description
|
Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 is an anticoagulant protein normally found in serum. Recent studies have demonstrated that some antiphospholipid antibodies require this protein as cofactor for optimal in-vitro binding and that some antiphospholipid antibodies may recognize the Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 cofactor-phospholipid complex. Anti-Beta 2 Glycoprotein 1 antibodies have been shown to be more specific for thrombosis than anticardiolipin antibodies in patients with antiphopholipid syndrome. An ELISA assay is utilized to detect antibodies directed against Beta-2 Glycoprotien 1 in the patient's serum. |
