Test Description
Test Name
Process and Hold
Description
Occasionally, physicians wish to submit specimens for possible immunophenotyping, depending on the results of permanent sections expected the next day. In these cases, please check "Process & Hold" on the requisition. As flow cytometric testing requires fresh, unfixed specimens, this procedure allows the laboratory to process a specimen in an appropriate manner and store it up to 3 days.  A processing fee may be charged. The processed specimen will generally remain viable for 2-3 days, during which time the physician may contact the laboratory to request immunophenotyping or cancel testing.
Specimen Requirements
The specimen requirements are the same as those listed under Immunophenotyping For Leukemias And Lymphomas.
