Description
Immortalization of white blood cell line.
Methodology
Lymphocytes are separated from peripheral blood and cultured in medium with Epstein-Barr virus until B-cell transformation occurs.

Turnaround Time
2 - 4 weeks; dependent on growth rate of cultured cells.
Specimen Requirements

20 mL of aseptically collected blood in green top sodium heparin tubes; from a child, a minimum of 5 mL of blood may be submitted.

Note: Deliver to lab at room temperature within 24 hours. If collected over a weekend, call the laboratory to make arrangements for specimen delivery. May be refrigerated if not transported immediately. Do not freeze. Protect from heat or cold.

Rejection Criteria Frozen, clotted, hemolyzed or grossly contaminated specimens. Incorrect anticoagulant used.
