Description
|
Cytogenetic analysis of cells from effusions or cerebrospinal fluid to assess for the presence of neoplastic clones. |

Methodology
|
A direct harvest or harvest after overnight culture, followed by G-banding with trypsin-Wright stain. Twenty metaphase cells are fully analyzed and at least two are karyotyped. |

Turnaround Time
|
10 days - 3 weeks. Preliminary results can be provided sooner if necessary. |

Specimen Requirements
|
At least 4-5 cc (up to 1 liter) aseptically collected fluid/effusion in a sterile container or syringe.
Note: Deliver to lab at room temperature within 24 hours. If collected over a weekend, call the laboratory to make arrangements for specimen delivery. May be refrigerated if not transported immediately. Do not freeze. Protect from heat or cold.

|
Frozen, fixed, clotted or grossly contaminated specimens. Specimens older than 24 hours. |
