Description
Cytogenetic analysis of unstimulated bone marrow cells to assess for the presence of neoplastic clones. |
Methodology
Cells are harvested from two or more unstimulated cultures. Twenty metaphase spreads are fully analyzed and two karyotypes are prepared. If abnormalities are found, at least two karyotypes are prepared for each abnormal clone. |
Performed
Daily. |
Turnaround Time
1 - 3 weeks. Preliminary results can be provided sooner if necessary. |
Specimen Requirements
2 ml aspirated bone marrow anticoagulated with preservative-free sodium heparin (e.g., green-top tube). Oncologic diagnosis (suspected or confirmed) must be provided.
Note: Deliver to lab at room temperature within 24 hours. If collected over a weekend, call the laboratory to make arrangements for specimen delivery. May be refrigerated if not transported immediately. Do not freeze. Protect from heat or cold.
