The Division of Hematopathology provides consultation in bone marrow and lymph node pathology. We have a full range of expertise in the morphologic assessment of hematopoietic tissues. Specimens submitted for consultation should be accompanied by a brief clinical history and appropriate laboratory results. It is recommended that paraffin blocks be included on lymph node and bone marrow sections. In the event that special immunohistochemical stains are required for diagnosis, having the blocks immediately available expedites the performance of these studies. The hematopathology consultation service is intimately coordinated with the flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics laboratories, and our services are completely integrated. Reports typically include commentary on any flow cytometric, cytogenetic, immunohistochemical or molecular diagnostic studies that are performed on the same tissue in our laboratories. There is no charge for morphologic consultations on cases that have been submitted for immunophenotyping or molecular analysis.
