Initiated in 1992, the UT Southwestern Medical School Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) aim is to provide high school students access to the medical school, its faculty, staff, and its clinical affiliates. Students from local high schools who are interested in medicine, allied health careers, or science are recruited to participate in the program.
Beginning in January, every Saturday for six weeks, students attend specially designed sessions to include but not limited to the following topics:
- Preparing for College: College 101
- College Admissions and Financial Aid
- Writing Skills Workshop
- Occupations in Medicine
- Teen Sexuality and Teen Violence presentation
- Disease Prevalence: Social Class and Race Disparities
- Sexually Transmitted Infections presentation
- Tours of UT Southwestern Medical School Facilities
- Using the Medical School Library
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Cardio Pulmenary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Blood Typing
- Prosthetics and Orthotics
