The general policy of the University Police Department to persons requiring entry assistance to a facility (lecture halls, auditoriums, seminar rooms, etc), office or lab is as follows:

  • Persons should have in possession a valid form of identification. Commonly, a UT Southwestern I.D.card is required.
  • The area entry is requested should be an area where the person is authorized to enter.
  • If the area in question is NOT an area where the person is typically authorized to enter, prior authorization in written form or by telephone authorization from the person in control of the area is required.
  • Prior written authorization for persons requiring entry to facilities at a later time and date to, offices or labs can be faxed to the University Police Department ahead of time at 214-648-2829.
  • Students will NOT be granted entry into any facilities, offices or labs without written or telephone authorization from the person in control of the area in question.
  • Other forms of identification such as: company or business identification cards, driver's licenses, Parkland Hospital I.D., Children's Hospital I.D., Zale-Lipshy I.D., or other non-UT Southwestern I.D. will NOT automatically satisfy identification requirements to a given area. Authorization will be questioned. Access to the area in question may be denied.

NOTE: If it is anticipated that a person will require access to given area and they are NOT UT Southwestern employees or persons who normally do not have access to the area in question, it is highly recommended that prior authorization arrangements be made to prevent any inconvenience or other potential problems.

Legitimate emergency situations or unusual circumstances may provide an exception to this policy. The police supervisor on duty will make the decision or authorization that is possibly an exception to this policy.

Our department receives a high number of entry assistance requests each day. It is nearly impossible for the officer to automatically determine who does or does not have authorization to any given area. Therefore, this policy was instituted to hopefully reduce any unauthorized entries to any facilities, offices or labs on campus.
