
City of Dallas
Dallas is a dynamic, cosmopolitan city of over 1,000,000 population. The energetic, friendly atmosphere, mild climate, and prosperous economy have combined to attract an increasing amount of new business and industry to the city in recent years. Cultural opportunities abound in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, and many other excellent museums. There are numerous fine theaters, ballet, and opera companies and two symphony orchestras. Other attractions include the Dallas Zoo, a wildlife park, several amusement parks, and the State Fair of Texas in October. A wide variety of restaurants and entertainment is available. Dallas is a national market center for the fashion industry and offers some of the finest shopping in the south. There are beautiful scenic parks and gardens located throughout the city, and several excellent state parks and lakes are located nearby. These offer facilities for tennis, jogging, camping, hunting, fishing, water sports and numerous other recreational activities.
There are many fine universities located in the DFW metropolitan area. These include Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, University of North Texas, Texas Women's University (with a Dallas campus adjacent to UT Southwestern), The University of Texas at Dallas, The University of Texas at Arlington, and The University of Dallas. In addition, Dallas has an excellent community college system, and there are several well-respected private colleges.
The Dallas area is also the home of Dallas Cowboy football, Dallas Mavericks basketball, Texas Rangers baseball, and Dallas Stars hockey. Other professional sports include the Dallas Sidekicks soccer team and Willow Bend polo. Dallas also hosts the annual Byron Nelson Golf Tournament at Las Colinas Sports Club.
