| Transplant Services Center provides the following in-services educational opportunities as a service to healthcare professionals. Approved for 1.2 CEU’s This course examines the patient care aspect of offering a potential donor family the option to donate tissues. It lists the tissues currently being recovered and discusses their applications in transplantation. The course describes the referral and screening process for potential donors and describes the optimum means for offering the donation option to decedents’ families when obtaining consent for the procedure. Also available by CD. See option IV. "TISSUE & EYE DONATION" OFFERING THE OPPORTUNITY Approved for 2.4 CEU’s ***Trained Tissue/Eye Requestor Certificate This course examines the interpersonal dynamics involved in approaching grieving families to request consent for tissue donation and supporting family decision. The course addresses the importance of proper environment, understanding of death, family dynamics, responding to questions and providing support. A portion of the course involves interactive role play, provides facts about what can be donated and how it is used, and answers questions about donor screening and required documentation. Offering the Option: REQUESTING TISSUE/EYE DONATION An Independent Study Approved for 3.0 Type II CEU’s ***Trained Tissue/Eye Requestor Certificate Through a series of printed materials, this course examines tissue transplantation information and methodologies for presenting the option of donation to the decedent’s family. The course participant will become familiar with what tissues can be donated, as well as how they may be utilized. Legislative issues concerning transplant, safeguards for tissue recipients and area of family concerns are covered in the materials. (TSC offers TNA accepted State of California Board of Registered Nurses approved programs at no charge for the CEUs) ***Trained Tissue/Eye Requestor Certificates are effective for 3 years from the date of issue Educational Offerings on CD Available only on CD: Approved for 1.2 CEUs This course examines criteria currently being used to screen potential donors, tissues currently being recovered, and their applications in transplantation. The referral and screening process gives insight to factors leading to evaluation of potential donors and their subsequent consideration or exclusion. This course is divided into 4 sections, each approximately 15 minutes in length.
