APPLICATION DEADLINE: until filled

The McDermott Center for Human Growth & Development is a research center of UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas focusing on human genetics, automated DNA sequencing, advanced biotechnology and bioinformatics, and genetic causes of human disease. Our Center often has paid and unpaid intern positions available in one of our research laboratories. Candidates must be available to work 15-19 hours per week. We seek candidates pursuing a degree and course work in any of the of the following areas with a GPA of 2.8 or higher:

  • Computer Science - requires knowledge in one or more of the following areas: UNIX, Perl, C, some system administration and web programming experience o Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Physics
  • Biology - preference will be given to candidates with an interest and course work in molecular biology and/or genetics.

Trainees will receive extensive training over a 6 to 12 month period. This research effort is expected to result in work suitable for publication in appropriate internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.

Student Interns

Duties:

The Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking college students to work with physician scientists on a multi-year research program.  The program consists of several individual clinical research and technology projects aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of heart disease.  Job responsibilities include contacting study participants by phone to update study records and administer a short questionnaire, answering study hotline to address participants' questions, assembling periodic mass mailings, and data entry. Hours are flexible including evenings and weekends.

Start date: ASAP

Education, Skills and Abilities & Qualifications:

  1. H.S. graduate.  Currently enrolled as a student at university in the D/FW area.
  2. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work as part of a team.
  4. Able to work 10 – 19 hours per week
