Understanding basic processes at the molecular level holds the key to treating and preventing urologic diseases and disorders.

 

The Urology Department at UT Southwestern has been named one of six National Institutes of Health-designated George M. O'Brien Urologic Research Centers in the United States, a national distinction that recognizes the department's pre-eminence both in basic and clinical research.

 

Current department research funding totals more than $10 million.

 

Researchers in the department currently are working on 17 projects focusing on five primary areas:

 

 

  • benign prostatic diseases
  • neurourology
  • urologic oncology
  • pediatric clinical research
  • pediatric urology
