Indications for laparoscopic surgery have grown rapidly in the past decade, and today minimally invasive procedures are commonplace in urology. For example, laparoscopic techniques are routinely used to reposition intra-abdominal testes, and to remove all or part of malformed kidneys. Laparoscopy also has been effective in repairing urinary blockages, especially at the ureteropelvic junction, and to correct vesicoureteral reflux. This approach has many advantages over traditional surgery performed through skin incisions, including reduced pain and scarring as well as shorter recovery time. Our center has extensive experience in many of these procedures, and has expanded the use of laparoscopy to include essentially all procedures where applicable.
