Children's Medical Center is a private not-for-profit institution that is the primary pediatric teaching hospital for UT Southwestern.  Children's also provides clinical experience and education to more than 75 young physicians each year.  Children's has nearly 50 specialty clinics and programs plus a wide range of other pediatric services, including advanced life support in a 61-bed pediatric intensive care unit.  A 325-bed facility, Children's is dedicated to making life better for children.

The educational goals and objectives for the resident assignment at Children's Medical Center:

During the Children’s Medical Center rotation, the residents obtain their exposure to pediatric urology. During their residency, they have two three-month blocks during which they are assigned to the Children’s Medical Center. The Core Competencies addressed at Children’s Medical Center include patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning improvement, interpersonal and communication skills. There is a very busy surgical service (typically 4 days per week) at the Children’s Medical Center, but in addition to being educated surgically, the residents also have exposure to the Urology clinics and are expected to improve their knowledge base with regard to diagnostic evaluation of common pediatric urological problems. The residents also cover the emergency room at the Children’s Medical Center and, therefore, a stated educational objective of this rotation is for the residents to learn and master approaches to common pediatric urological emergencies such as the acute scrotum.
