Detail and luxury best describe the surroundings at Zale Lipshy University Hospital. Completed in 1989, this 9-story, 160-bed hospital serves as the primary adult referral hospital for UT Southwestern's faculty physicians. This not-for-profit hospital is considered a model for hospitals of the 21st century. Designed to make patients and visitors comfortable, the hospital is enhanced with vibrant patterns of museum-quality Asian textiles. A collection of more than 350 fine textiles similar to the collection of Indonesian textiles at the Dallas Museum of Art, both gifts of the Eugene McDermott Foundation, make a distinctive addition to the hospital.
The educational goals and objectives for Southwestern University Hospitals (includes Zale Lipshy and St. Paul):
During the Southwestern University Hospitals rotation, the residents will have responsibilities at both St. Paul University Hospital as well as Zale Lipshy University Hospital. The Core Competencies that will be strengthened at these two institutions will include patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning, and improvement and professionalism. This rotation focuses on improvement in surgical skills as this is a very surgically intensive rotation. In addition, since the inpatient population tends to be large, there is a certain emphasis on inpatient urological care. The Inpatient Consultation service is active and, therefore, there is certainly an emphasis on working with other services and utilizing resources outside of Urology to achieve the optimal care for our patients.
