The Division has been involved in clinical research projects involving clinical trials of new therapies as well as multicenter studies in pathogenesis and epidemiology of childhood rheumatic diseases.  We have been involved in translational research, helping to make a bridge between the basic science researchers in pediatric collagen vascular diseases and the patients.  Our large and varied patient population has given us the ability to conduct studies in several areas.  Some of the recent and/or current studies are listed below.

Marilynn G. Punaro, M.D.

  • Use of statins to prevent atherosclerosis in systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Biologic therapy of polyarticular course juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • Inflammatory markers and response to treatment in systemic onset juvenile arthritis

Katherine Madson, M.D., Ph.D.

  • Drug Company sponsored pharmacokinetic studies
  • Multi-center studies regarding epidemiology of juvenile arthritis
  • Clinical Trials
